Privacy Policy
Updated October 25, 2026
Public Pages is a digital library and reading community, available on the web and through our Android app. This policy describes how we handle information when you browse, create an account or use community features.
Information you provide
Accounts use an email address, a password stored as a salted hash, a display name, a unique username and your selected gender. Gender is saved permanently for reading-date eligibility. You may add a biography and profile photo. We also collect your private date of birth to enforce the minimum account age of 16 and restrict reading dates to adults aged 18 and over. Other readers do not see your date of birth; messaging participants may see whether a reader is eligible for adult reading dates. Your saved date is permanent; contact support if it needs correction. Your email is not shown to other readers.
We store your saved books, folders, playlists, reading progress, bookmarks, highlights, notes, badges and activity needed to provide these features. Community information includes messages, voice notes, clubs, group posts, invitations, buddy reads, reading-date details, blocks and reports. Publishers may upload books, covers and descriptive information. Private book requests and their files are available to the requesting reader, their assigned publisher and the site owner; they are excluded from the public catalog. Assigned roles and daily activity determine reader badges and available tools.
Who can see your information
Signed-in readers can find your username, display name, biography, gender and profile photo. Profiles are not available to signed-out visitors. Messages are available to their participants, and group content to the relevant members. Community features may show reading progress to participants in a shared read. Published books and their catalog information are public.
The site owner and authorized members of the review team can review assigned reports and the relevant reported content to enforce community rules. Messages are stored on our service; they are not end-to-end encrypted. Do not send sensitive information you would not want stored.
Camera, microphone and video
Camera and microphone access are optional and requested when you choose a feature that needs them. Voice notes are uploaded for delivery. Reading-date video and audio use a direct WebRTC connection between participants; Public Pages does not record those calls. Connection setup uses temporary signaling data and a STUN service. Other participants and network services involved in establishing the call may learn your network address. Calls may fail on networks that prevent direct connections.
Site traffic and device storage
We measure page views, daily visitor totals, referring website domains, page paths and approximate country. The traffic counter uses a browser identifier to create a daily hash; the visitor table stores the daily hash rather than the raw identifier. The service also handles network addresses and request information to deliver pages, limit abuse and diagnose problems.
A session cookie keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. Your browser may store reading positions, preferences, cached book files and a visitor identifier. You can clear these through your browser settings. Clearing local data does not delete your server account.
Service providers and use
We use Cloudflare to host and deliver the service and store application data. GitHub stores the website source and library assets. Google Play distributes the Android app. These providers process information needed for their services under their own policies. We use account information to operate your account, deliver reading and social features, respond to support requests and prevent abuse. We do not sell your personal information. The current app does not display paid advertisements. If our data practices change, we will update this policy.
Retention and deletion
Ordinary messages remain until account deletion or moderation removes them. Voice-note audio is scheduled for deletion one hour after playback is recorded; cleanup may take a little longer. Unplayed voice notes remain available until played, removed through moderation or account deletion. Temporary call signals expire after about 30 minutes; inactive presence records expire sooner.
Delete your account in Profile settings. Deletion removes your login, profile details, saved library, reading data, notes, highlights, messages, group posts and invitations. Shared clubs or buddy reads may pass to another member. Publicly published library books and files remain part of the public catalog, with the uploader’s account details removed. Private books fulfilled for your account and their uploaded files are deleted when you delete your account. Anonymous references can remain in shared catalog and moderation records. Traffic totals that are not linked to your account remain. Copies already downloaded by other people cannot be recalled. Hosting backups or security logs may persist according to the provider’s retention processes.
Your choices and contact
You can edit your profile, remove saved items, decline optional device permissions, block users and report concerns. For access, correction, deletion assistance or privacy questions, contact jeremy@redwoodrock.org. See account deletion instructions, including how to request help without the app.
Young people
Public Pages is intended for people aged 16 and over. Do not create an account if you are under 16. If you believe a younger child has supplied personal information, contact us so we can investigate and remove it.
Changes
Updates will be posted here with a revised date. Material changes to account terms may require renewed acceptance.
