Choose a book and agree on a pace

Browse the category collections together, then share the book's details link. Reading the description first helps everyone decide whether the story or subject fits the group.

Agree on a small first goal, such as one chapter before your next conversation. Use chapter names rather than screen-page numbers: text sizes, devices, and downloaded editions can divide pages differently.

For a low-pressure start, choose a short first session and let readers adjust the pace after they have tried it.

Start a buddy read

  1. Sign in and open My library.
  2. Find the Buddy reads section and select + Read together.
  3. Give the shared read a name, choose a book, and search for a friend by name or username.
  4. Select the friend and choose Invite to read together.

Invited readers can find the invitation under Buddy reads in their own library and choose Accept. Open the shared room and select Read together to begin.

The room shows members' reading progress. Chapter discussions open as everyone reaches the corresponding chapter, helping the group stay together without revealing later events too soon.

Join or start a book club

Open Community while signed in to find readers and book clubs. Public clubs show Join club. Private clubs show Request to join and need the owner's approval.

To create your own, select + Start a club. Give people a clear idea of what you want to read and how often you want to talk. Once you are in a club, use its conversation area to share a thought or attach a book recommendation.

Decide together how to mark spoilers in ordinary club messages. A short chapter heading at the start of a post helps others decide when to read it.

Three questions for your first discussion

  • Which moment or choice most changed the way you saw a character?
  • Which short passage would you read aloud, and what makes it memorable?
  • What do you expect to happen next, and which detail led you to that idea?

Leave room for different reactions. A useful discussion can start with a sentence someone found confusing, funny, or unexpectedly moving; it does not need a formal review.

Make it easy to come back

Use + My library on a book's details page to keep it in your collection. A bookmark or a short reading note can help you remember what you wanted to bring up next time.
