- Select Read this book to open the online edition.
For a first look, try Pride and Prejudice. Browsing and reading the public library do not require an account.
Make the reading view comfortable
In a text edition, use A− and A+ to change the text size. The reading theme control switches between the light paper and dark views. Fullscreen gives the book more room when your browser supports it.
Use Next and Previous to turn pages. On a phone or tablet, you can also swipe across the text. On a computer, the left and right arrow keys turn pages when you are reading outside a text field or open dialog.
Open Contents to jump to a section. Text size and screen width affect the number of pages, so a chapter or section is a more reliable meeting point than a screen-page number.
Read an illustrated or original-page edition
Some books open in an original-page viewer so you can see their illustrations, diagrams, tables, and page layout. Use its + and − controls to zoom, and the fit control to switch between fitting the page and fitting its width. You can use the page-number field to jump to a page.
When a book offers Text view, you can choose it for adjustable text. Use Original pages to return to the illustrated layout. The controls shown depend on the edition; every book does not offer both views.
Keep your place and favorite passages
Use Bookmark this page to mark a place you want to revisit. In the text reader, Open bookmarks and notes opens your reading notebook, where you can return to saved places.
Without signing in, saved text-reader places stay in the browser you are using. Sign in to keep supported reading progress and saved places with your account. On a book's details page, + My library adds it to your personal collection.
In text editions, signed-in readers can also select a passage to highlight it or add a note. Choose a short, memorable passage so it is easy to recognize when you return.
If a book does not open
Give a large illustrated edition time to load. If an error offers Try again, use it to retry. You can return to the details page and choose one of the available downloads if you prefer reading in another app.
The website reader needs an internet connection to load its content. For a copy you can keep on your device, follow the eBook download guide.
