Yonggom Wambon, a Dumut Language of West Papua: Annotated Texts with Grammar and Vocabulary

by Wilco van den Heuvel

About this book

Wilco van den Heuvel presents an extensive linguistic reanalysis of Yonggom Wambon, drawing on Petrus Drabbe’s earlier documentation. A grammatical introduction, bilingual wordlists and annotated narratives provide complementary ways of exploring the language.

The grammar examines phonology, verbs, other word classes and the structure and combination of clauses. Twelve texts include stories about the Kao River, canoe making, family relationships and other subjects, accompanied by linguistic annotation. A historical wordlist and a guide to Drabbe’s terminology are also included. This substantial modern analysis expands the earlier description rather than simply reproducing or translating it.
