True Spirit Return

by George McGehean and Lois McGehean

About this book

George and Lois McGehean present a collection of spiritualist teachings attributed to their departed mother. Published in Cincinnati in 1922, the book combines messages of consolation with an extended discussion of the afterlife, the powers of spirits and the relationship between earthly conduct and spiritual existence.

Its chapters move from spiritualism and heaven to punishment, suicide, evil spirits and divine protection. Biblical figures provide much of the structure: Noah, Solomon, Moses and Job appear in discussions of prayer, justice, patience and the power of God, followed by a substantial treatment of the life and significance of Jesus.

The concluding address to skeptics returns to immortality and the interpretation of nature as an expression of continuing life. Personal messages, religious argument and poetic passages give the volume its distinctive form. The original edition includes portraits and a detailed contents list, preserving the authors' presentation of family communication within Christian spiritualist belief.
