Charles Dawbarn proposes an explanation of how a medium might receive and express a communication attributed to a spirit. Beginning with comparisons drawn from ordinary perception and natural history, he develops an account of the relationship between the human organism, thought and the conditions of a séance.
The lecture connects its discussion of mediumship with a theory of vibrations and harmony between the communicating intelligence and the medium. This complete pamphlet retains H. A. Budington’s publisher’s preface and the full argument. The selected edition bears an 1899 imprint and an 1891 copyright; the lecture was first delivered in 1885.
