H. Scheuing sets out an account of the soul, spiritual faculties, and mediumship based on his interpretation of personal investigations and experiences. The book describes a transition from materialism to psychic inquiry while criticising both established religious explanations and the practices of professional mediums.
The discussion begins with immortality and the nature of the soul, then develops Scheuing’s ideas about the aura, spiritual influence, and the relationship between bodily and nonphysical existence. Later sections consider spirit photography, ectoplasm, externalisation, tests associated with James Hyslop, and the author’s own experiences. His foreword explains that the book is intended to discourage indiscriminate attempts to become a medium rather than to recruit readers into the practice.
Published in Columbus, Ohio, in 1923, this complete historical edition includes the topical index and full text through the closing personal account. Its original printed pages and matching binding are retained.
