This campaign history follows the American Expeditionary Forces during the Second Battle of the Marne in the summer of 1918. It explains the strategic situation before the German offensive and traces American units as they fought alongside Allied forces in the defense and subsequent counteroffensive.
The narrative links command decisions, battlefield geography and the experiences of the divisions involved. Original maps and photographs accompany the account, with a concluding analysis, author biographies and further reading. Published in 2018 as CMH Publication 77–5, this is the complete original booklet in the Army’s World War I commemorative series.
