In the French town of Mante, the wounded Marquis de Rosny tries to attend to affairs of state while his secretary struggles to keep pace. Robert Sulivan’s five-act play brings Henry IV and his circle into a story of friendship, loyalty and private attachments.
The complete published play retains the cast of characters, scene divisions, stage directions and dialogue. It also preserves Sulivan’s dedication to actor-manager Samuel Phelps and the notice of the first performance at Sadler’s Wells on 21 May 1845.
