American units fought in several Allied armies during the final months of the First World War. This campaign history follows those operations from the trenches of Belgium and northern France to the Italian front, explaining how American soldiers supported the wider Allied advance toward the Armistice.
The authors trace the changing arrangements under which the American Expeditionary Forces worked with French, British, Belgian and Italian commands. Maps, original photographs and operational accounts show the contribution of divisions and regiments outside the best-known independent American campaigns. The complete 2018 commemorative booklet includes analysis, author information and further reading. Its National Archives cover photograph shows a 30th Division soldier firing a Lewis gun.
