Frank Podmore surveys the phenomena investigated by the Society for Psychical Research and the evidence gathered during its early years. He follows the movement from popular spiritualism into organized investigations of reported experiences.
Chapters examine physical manifestations, poltergeists, thought transference, hallucinations, ghosts, haunted houses, premonitions and unusual states of consciousness. Podmore compares testimony, experimental procedures and possible interpretations. This complete original 1897 edition preserves the twelve chapters, references, illustrations and index.
