E. D. Walker surveys the doctrine of reincarnation through religion, philosophy, literature and arguments about the nature of the soul. He traces the idea of repeated earthly lives across traditions and considers its relationship to memory, personal identity, moral development and immortality.
The book combines Walker's own discussion with selections from writers and thinkers whose work he associates with pre-existence and rebirth. Poetry and historical examples accompany his examination of objections and supporting arguments. This download preserves the complete 1888 Houghton, Mifflin edition; the cover photograph shows the matching historical London edition from the same year.
