Psychology of Color

by J. C. F. Grumbine

About this book

J. C. F. Grumbine explores the effects he associates with color on the senses, temperament and psychic responsiveness. The book begins with supersensitiveness and the finer influences of matter, then considers colors as stimulants, irritants or sources of calm.

A dictionary assigns psychological qualities to individual colors. Later chapters apply the scheme to surroundings, the nursery, temperament and dress, including the customs of white bridal clothing and black mourning. The discussion joins everyday choices of color to Grumbine’s spiritual account of human perception.

This complete 1921 work is a separate six-chapter study, preserving its original sequence and final discussion of international customs. It retains the original illustrations and printed presentation.
