Jerk Line Smith can guide an eighteen-horse freight team through the Montana country, but his partnership with the small, outspoken Two Dog Moore proves harder to manage. Their loads of supplies, whiskey and blasting powder give Walt Coburn the setting for a Western story of pride, dangerous work and stubborn affection.
The freighters’ saloon talk and extravagant yarns lead into a dispute whose consequences reach well beyond an ordinary quarrel. This complete story from Adventure, 15 August 1928, preserves the original dialect and magazine illustration, along with the Project Gutenberg production notes and license.
