This laboratory study develops a way to analyze polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in both gaseous and particulate components of propene smoke. Using thermal desorption coupled with gas chromatography and mass spectrometry, the researchers investigate the chemicals produced across conditions ranging from little soot to soot-dominant combustion.
The report describes the experimental setup, sampling and analytical procedures, then presents identified compounds and measured results. Thirty-one PAHs were identified, primarily in soot. The method is intended to support further measurements of combustion products and ambient concentrations. Original apparatus photographs, chromatograms, tables, calculations and references remain intact in this complete technical note.
