Memoirs of Charles Campbell, at Present Prisoner in the Jail of Glasgow

by Charles Campbell

About this book

Charles Campbell recounts his life from imprisonment in Glasgow, explaining that he hopes publication will help relieve his circumstances. His memoir includes experiences as a seaman and as an overseer in the West Indies, linking travels and work to the events through which he came to write the account.

The volume also appends an account of his trial before the Circuit Court of Justiciary in Glasgow on 27 April 1826. Personal recollection and the record of legal proceedings therefore appear together in the complete work. This is the 1828 edition, preserving the original preface, narrative and trial material.
