Édouard Schuré traces what he regards as a shared esoteric tradition behind several religious and philosophical teachings. His French-language narrative follows Rama, Krishna, Hermes, Moses, Orpheus, Pythagoras, Plato and Jesus as figures in this proposed history of initiation.
The chapters combine interpretations of ancient texts, reconstructed scenes and reflections on spiritual knowledge. Questions about the soul, the divine and the transmission of wisdom connect the different sections. This complete historical edition preserves the original printed volume, including its introduction and contents.
