Two young men borrow helmets to match the fire engine they plan to drive to Springfield for a holiday trip. Their unusual transport soon attracts more attention than either the reporter or his companion expected.
A real fire, an argument with the police and a series of mistaken impressions turn the journey into a comic adventure. The explanation of their actions brings official thanks, an unexpected sale and a firm decision about the trip home. This is the complete September 1928 story.
