Household Food Security in the United States in 2024

by Matthew P. Rabbitt, Madeline Reed-Jones, Laura J. Hales

About this book

This report presents national estimates of U.S. households’ access to enough food during 2024. Using the Current Population Survey Food Security Supplement, the authors distinguish food security from low and very low food security and compare the year’s findings with earlier estimates.

Detailed tables and charts examine household composition, income and other characteristics, differences among States, food spending and participation in nutrition assistance programs. The report explains the survey measures and statistical comparisons behind the results. Published in December 2025, this is a new annual analysis of the 2024 data, with the complete methods, findings and references retained.
