Household Food Security in the United States in 2021

by Alisha Coleman-Jensen, Matthew P. Rabbitt, Christian A. Gregory

About this book

This report presents estimates of U.S. households’ ability to obtain enough food during 2021. It uses the Current Population Survey Food Security Supplement to distinguish food security from low and very low food security and to compare patterns across households.

Detailed tables examine income, household composition, food spending and participation in nutrition assistance programs. The authors explain the survey measures, methods and statistical comparisons used to interpret the results. Published in September 2022, this is a new annual analysis of the 2021 data, with its complete findings and references retained.
