Het labyrint der wereld en het paradijs des harten

by Jan Amos Comenius

About this book

Jan Amos Comenius turns the world into a labyrinth through which a pilgrim seeks understanding. The first part of this religious allegory follows the traveller among the occupations, ambitions and institutions of human life, while the second turns toward an inward encounter with Christian faith.

The work combines observation, satire and spiritual reflection as its traveller moves from confusion toward the ‘paradise of the heart’. This complete Dutch translation by R. A. B. Oosterhuis was published by Kemink & Zoon in 1926 and includes explanatory notes and an afterword. The source afterword records the first Czech publication in 1631; the 1926 translation is retained as a historical edition, with its original portrait and notices.
