This investigation examines historical groundwater information from the Lee Acres Landfill and the adjacent Giant Bloomfield Refinery near Farmington, New Mexico. It uses chemistry and groundwater-level records to explore the origins and persistence of contamination at sites with different histories of waste disposal and remediation.
The report brings together data collected between 1985 and 2020 and compares spatial and temporal patterns in chloride, manganese, and other constituents. Particular attention is given to the effects of the landfill's capillary barrier and runoff controls on infiltration and groundwater chemistry.
Readers will find an environmental case study connecting monitoring records with interpretations of groundwater movement and chemical processes. Maps, graphs, supporting tables, and references explain the evidence behind the analysis. The complete publication also documents the database used, allowing its conclusions to be understood in the context of the available historical information.
