Changes in U.S. Family Finances from 2013 to 2016: Evidence from the Survey of Consumer Finances

by Jesse Bricker, Lisa J. Dettling, Alice Henriques

About this book

The 2016 Survey of Consumer Finances provides the basis for this study of American families’ income, wealth, assets and debts. The authors compare the results with 2013 and examine how broad gains differed across the income and wealth distributions and among families with different characteristics.

Housing, business ownership, retirement holdings, financial assets, borrowing and credit constraints receive detailed treatment. Charts, tables, explanatory boxes and a technical appendix describe both the findings and the survey methods. This complete September 2017 publication retains the subsequently listed corrections to the original report.
