This NIST study documents the production and characterization of a reference material used to validate measurements of homocysteine in human serum. Its three concentration levels allow diagnostic manufacturers and reference and clinical laboratories to check the performance of their analytical procedures.
The report follows the work from serum production and handling through chromatographic and mass-spectrometric methods, quantitative measurements and uncertainty evaluation. Detailed experimental results, figures and supporting calculations show how the certified values were established. The complete June 2024 publication retains all original analytical documentation and appendices.
