A wildfire can set in motion a chain of consequences that continues long after the flames are out. This study examines that problem through a workshop focused on postfire hazards following the 2021 Cedar Creek and Muckamuck Fires in Okanogan County, Washington.
Twenty participants with local and specialist knowledge worked through a defined hazard scenario, tracing how one impact could lead to others and identifying interventions that might reduce their likelihood or severity. The report explains the chains-of-consequences method, participant selection, scenario development, and the results of the April 2023 workshop. Its discussion considers what the exercise revealed about gaps in knowledge and the value of cooperation across disciplines.
Published in 2025, the complete report includes the methods, results, discussion, references, and supporting material. It is useful to readers interested in disaster recovery, environmental hazards, and the connection between scientific information and community decision making.
