An elderly stage actor and a successful younger screen performer wait in a Johannesburg casting agency. Their uncomfortable encounter, overseen by a busy casting director, gradually exposes differences in status, experience and expectations. Paul Slabolepszy’s three-character play uses the ordinary tensions of an audition to explore artistic work, ageing, dignity and the uncertainty of a performing career.
The published script includes the cast, acknowledgements, stage directions and the final performance draft. First staged in Johannesburg in February 2025 and first published in 2026, it moves between uneasy humour and painful exchanges as its characters negotiate how they are seen by one another and by the industry that employs them.
