Arezoo Sang Bastian studies organ transplantation where religious reasoning, medical practice, and state legislation meet. The book examines how Islamic legal traditions and secular legal systems address the ethical and regulatory questions raised by donation and transplantation in the Middle East and North Africa.
An introductory account of Islamic law explains the sources and methods relevant to the later discussion. The analysis then turns to transplantation itself and to the laws adopted in MENA states, comparing the ways legal systems respond to questions concerning donors, recipients, consent, and the organisation of transplantation. The structure allows readers to follow the movement from general legal and religious principles to specific regulatory arrangements.
The dissertation was accepted in 2023 and published as a first edition in January 2024. This complete original monograph includes a glossary, bibliography, conclusions, and summary. Its references and legal links remain part of the publisher’s unchanged digital edition.
