What happens when scholars from different disciplines examine the questions they normally take for granted? Edited by Karim Schelkens and Arnold Smeets, this volume grew from a June 2022 symposium involving Tilburg University’s five schools. Its short essays use the Anthropocene as a shared starting point for reflection on research, education and the responsibilities of universities.
Contributors approach the discussion through law and human agency, the position of humanity within the natural world, sustainable development, sociological reflexivity, theology and philosophy. Other essays examine the language in which scholarly questions are asked and the value of crossing disciplinary boundaries. A foreword, epilogue and notes on the authors frame this complete, illustrated symposium publication.
