Sheriff Joe Cook is worried about two things: catching Foxy Fromera and selling his potato crop into a falling market. His deputy, Shorty McKay, thinks both problems can be solved, although his method requires the sheriff to remain unaware of a good deal of the plan.
A missing crop and an elusive thief become parts of the same scheme in this comic Western mystery. The complete September 1928 story retains its original Harry T. Fisk illustration and Shorty’s account of how he combined his duties with a speculative view of the potato market.
Ray Humphreys. Western Story Magazine, 8 September 1928. Illustration: Harry T. Fisk. Original Project Gutenberg production credits and license retained.
