Otis Adelbert Kline’s A Vision of Venus follows a hazardous expedition on an imagined Venus through the telepathic observations of an Earth scientist. Dr. Morgan has established a mental connection with Lotan, a plant hunter whose search for a rare food fungus takes him across a world of unfamiliar creatures and dangerous seas. When Lotan’s small flying craft is damaged, the quest becomes a struggle to find a safe landing place. An isolated island brings a new encounter, and the search for the valuable kadkor becomes entangled with rescue and romance. The story’s imagined machinery depends as much on mental powers as on mechanical devices.
First published in the December 1933 issue of Amazing Stories, this compact planetary adventure includes Leo Morey’s illustration and the source magazine material preserved in the original EPUB. The complete narrative moves from its Earthbound frame to the conclusion of Lotan’s expedition, combining exotic natural history, peril and a romantic resolution in the style of early magazine science fiction.
