How can hazard science become information that helps people prepare and make decisions? This U.S. Geological Survey strategy describes a collaborative approach to connecting research on natural hazards with the needs of communities, emergency managers and other users of scientific information.
The report begins with an executive summary and a discussion of collaboration, then sets out four priorities for the 2026–2031 period. Those priorities address the focus of scientific work, the agency’s hazard and risk capabilities, the creation of actionable products and the communication of consistent, useful information. A closing section gives examples of the approach in practice. This concise professional strategy is preserved in full, including its original illustrations, reference, agency notices and disclosure statement about the preparation of the manuscript.
